"Lincoln and the Widow Bixby"

Historian and Associate Professor, Judith Giesberg talks about the life of Lydia Bixby, a widow and mother of five sons killed during the Civil War. Giesberg is an Associate Professor of History at Villanova University. Her most recent book, Army at Home: Women and the Civil War on the Northern Home Front, tells the stories of women who tried to keep things from falling apart as war came home.

This episode was taped at The Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, which is located on the banks of the Schuylkill River and is the first cemetery in the nation to be designated as a National Historic Landmark.
